Directors Kelly and David have a long track record of involvement in agriculture at all levels. Both hailing from farming families in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, they have in-depth knowledge of practical crop and livestock production. David and Kelly managed the Cussons family farms in Western Australia for many years, developing a strong understanding of practical agriculture.
CussonsMedia is in the unique situation for a media company in having an ‘in-house’ agronomist – Kelly is a trained professional agronomist who worked fulltime for Elders for many years, and still provides agronomic services for ‘Kunmallup Pastoral Co’, her family’s farming operation in WA. Key areas of expertise include weeds, disease and pest control, nutrition and rotation management for canola, wheat, barley, oats, lupins and sub clover. She also sits on the board for Kunmallup and manages grain marketing for the business.
David has reported on the Australian agricultural industry for many years, starting with ABC Rural in 1998. He was one of the youngest ever Country Hour presenters, going straight from cadet to a senior role as WA Country Hour presenter in 2000. He has reported on the grains industry in Esperance, Bunbury, Toowoomba, Burnie and also Melbourne, where he presented the National Rural News bulletin.
David has an honours degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Western Australia and is a graduate of the Texas A&M University Executive Program for Agricultural Producers. A 2009 Nuffield Scholar and past Director of Nuffield Australia, David used his scholarship to develop communication strategies to help improve public perceptions of farming and the agricultural sector.
Kelly holds an honours degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Western Australia. She is a trained broadacre agronomist who brings significant technical knowledge to CussonsMedia clients.
